Lux Retreats Paso began because we owned vacation rentals and could not find a management company that paid enough attention to the details. Not the big things — most companies handle those. The small ones: whether the coffee grinder actually works, whether the spa is hot when guests arrive rather than an hour later, whether a guest question at nine in the evening gets a real answer or a canned one.
So we managed our own homes, and did it properly. Other owners noticed and asked us to take theirs on. That is still how the portfolio grows.
We remain owner-operators. Some of the homes in our collection are ours, which means every process we use on an owner's property is one we already run on our own.
Most of this work is invisible when it goes well, so it is worth being specific about who does what.
We employ our own cleaning team rather than dispatching whoever is available through an app. The same people clean the same homes, which is why they notice when something is worn, missing or broken before a guest does.
Routine repairs and upkeep are handled by our own maintenance staff. Specialised work — electrical, plumbing, HVAC, spa systems — goes to licensed contractors we have worked with for years. We do not pretend to do everything ourselves, and we do not mark up trade work you could have arranged yourself.
Guest messages come to us directly. Not a call centre, not an outsourced desk in another time zone. That is the part of this business that determines your review scores, and it is not something we are willing to hand off.
You will not go through a ticketing system to speak to your manager. Owners have our number and can use it. If something is wrong with your property, you hear it from us before you hear it from a guest.
We take properties in Paso Robles, Atascadero and Templeton. That is a deliberate limit rather than a lack of ambition — our cleaning and maintenance teams are local, and the moment a portfolio spreads across a county the response times that make this work start to slip.
Each of these jurisdictions regulates short-term rentals differently. Paso Robles operates a permit system with occupancy limits tied to bedroom count; the county rules covering Templeton differ again. We handle permitting and compliance as part of management rather than leaving it to owners to interpret.
